This week has furthered my understanding about how much of the information we learn throughout our lives have actually been manipulated. I had only watched the Disney adaptation of Pocahontas a few times in my life so it was not a well known topic to begin with. But after interacting with the Who is Pocahontas? Picture gallery and actually talking about the horrors that not just her but so many other Native women went through brought me to wonder, what other topics do I think I’m well versed in that I actually only know mainstreamed media portrayals?

I think many of us share this exact experience, especially in learning about Pocahontas. I’m glad that we were able to spend so much time engaging with her life portraits and think about them comparatively with other depictions of Pocahontas that we’ve experienced.
