The only comparisons between Native efforts for revitalization and other revolutions is that they were all conflicts with violent actions. The American Revolution was a fight for freedom and to create a new country and the French Revolution was about the “commoners” not being satisfied with the way their country was being ruled. The Native movements were about survival. The indigenous people were harmed and targeted so violently that there was no chance for any kind of political change, all of the movements and rebellions were acted upon for survival of body and culture. While yes, there was diplomatic approaches towards de-escalation like the Oneida Declaration of Neutrality in 1775 the conquerors and settlers that came to the “new world” resorted to violence so efficiently that Native and Indigenous people had to resort to fleeing and leaving their home lands behind.
