Hi! I’m Delaney (they/she) and I’m a first-year majoring in Theatre and maybe also History. I’m interested in theatre, dance, and visual arts as well as sociology, literature, and history.

In high school, I took IB History of the Americas, where I learned a lot about the American Civil War and civil rights movements across the Americas, including Indigenous rights movements in the US and Canada. Other than that, I’ve spent a little bit of time here and there reading about pre-colonial America and visiting museums, but I didn’t grow up in the US so my education didn’t usually include history lessons specifically about Native Americans.

I have very limited knowledge of Indigenous history before the 20th century, and I’m incredibly excited to learn more about this history and connect my new knowledge to recent civil rights movements. Over spring break, I visited the Minnesota History Center and learned a lot from two exhibits called ‘Reframing Our Stories’ and ‘Our Home: Native Minnesota’, which allowed me to take a closer look at Indigenous history prior to the start of this class.

  1. Welcome, Delaney! We’re glad to have you here. I look forward to reading your thoughts and insights each week!

I think I’ve also been to those exhibits as well– was this at Minnesota Historical Society? If so, they were really interesting and I liked how they presented the exhibits with Dakota, Ojibwe, and then English translations of text!
