While each of the creation stories were unique in their own way there was a lot of consistency throughout all of them, they all seem to be telling the same story just at different points in time. One of the most interesting things that came to be a similarity was the fact that in all of the origin stories we went over had the number four like in the cherokee story the birds flew in four different directions and in the Hopi creation story the first four people out of the cave walked in four different directions. Some of the other similarities continue with the Lakota and the Hopi both saying that we originated from the ground. While the creation stories are interesting and fun, some of the other things we went over very briefly like the buffalo runs are just more of an interesting spark. The concept of a buffalo run is to scare the buffalos off the cliff and then be able to use the buffalo’s meat, fur, and bones to their maximum capabilities.I found it more interesting when I listened to the stories because you can just let your imagination take over and envision what the story looks like through your own thoughts.

Hi Payson!
It is so interesting to think about the similarities and differences across the different creation stories. I think they generally shared more commonalities– especially in terms of relating to animals and spiritual beings, as well as the concepts of different spiritual worlds that interact with one another. I was especially drawn to how the peopling of Earth/the Middle World generally meant that there was less fluidity between the different worlds as there had previously been. Yet the stories and messages reinforced the continuity of those connections, and that’s why it is so important to listen!
