Week 1

Hi, my name is Vince Zamora. I’m a first-year student from Tucson Arizona, and I decided to come to Knox really late into the summer. Know was the best fit for me both academically and in my pursuit of continuing to play baseball at the collegiate level. I’m not entirely sure about what I’d like to major in. I came to Knox thinking I’d like to major in communications/ journalism however I still haven’t decided on a sure thing. I do love history and learning about both the great accomplishments of humanity and of course, the mistakes we’ve made.

In this class, I’d love to just learn the most I can, because my general information about most Native American history is mostly the basics. I’d like to learn more about their rich and interesting cultures. I’d also like to learn how different nations interacted with each other, what they did to endure and sure throughout their histories and the many wrongs that happened to them. I’d also like to learn more about how native Americans have shaped our society and what major influential people were native american or native descent. I’d also like to learn more about southwestern nations and tribes since that’s where I’m personally from and I’d like to learn more about my region and the history within it.

My native american history is like many others all through the lens of American history. This meant things like pages of early settlers with little sections of native americans and their usual vague violence that is rarely talked about. They usually tend to pass over the colonization that America did in the American book for obvious reasons. I did have a world history class in high school that described more about the early civilizations that were in America. I also had a Mexican-American point of view history class that talked about early Meso-americans and the regions near our current Mexican and American borders.
